Founded in 1995, Youth Believing in Change (YBC) is a faith-based organization offering after school and summer programs to elementary students in the Vickery Meadow Community. Our mission is to give children the spiritual and educational foundation they need to succeed.
Rev. Vincent E. Gaddis started YBC when he was tutoring children in the Vickery Meadow community. One of the most densely populated areas in Dallas, Texas — the neighborhood is bound by Northwest Highway, Royal Lane, Central Expressway and Skillman/Abrams.
Referred to by City Council member Jennifer Staubach Gates as “kind of the melting pot of America”, the community is largely populated by immigrant and refugee families. The children of Vickery Meadow were “still hungry for more” after the tutoring sessions with Gaddis. He found out quickly the “more” they needed was Jesus, and YBC was born.
YBC serves more than 200 children from September through May, hosting after school programs which includes hot meals, tutoring, mentoring and homework help. YBC also offers an eight-week summer program during June and July that mirrors regular school hours. Summer curriculum includes music, art enrichment, leadership and other educational efforts.
Our next big event is Youth Bowling For Change on September 30, please check out the details on our event pages!
